marathon

Shanon and I traveled down to Oklahoma City to support our friends Dan and Patrick in the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon.  It was way colder and rainier than we had planned.

This is butt-crack-o'-dawn early for the beginning of the race.  Dan and Patrick's friends and family were also participating in the relay marathon.

Here they are coming around the lake about 10 miles or so into the race.  Shanon and I did pretty well meeting them at different points on the course, but when we got here we felt bad for them fighting a strong head wind around the lake.

Despite a little cramping trouble in the last six miles, they were able to finish the race within the time they had targeted (3 hours, 30 minutes).

They may be smiling here, but both of them assured us that pounding the pavement for over three hours straight makes a body hurt.  They did great and I'm pretty sure they will do it again in a year or two.

And while it wasn't the focus of our trip, it was nice to get to take in the beauty of the memorial site of the Oklahoma City bombing once the weather cleared up.
