Nature Hike

With the beautiful weather and the changing of the seasons Jeff and I have been trying to do as much outside as we can before we're stuck in the house for the winter. We really enjoy going on nature hikes and walking the trails at the Governor's mansion. The last time we were there (and actually remembered the camera) we got some shots of one of the ponds and the critters that call it home.

There were frogs everywhere! Some of them were pretty big with strong jumping legs.

We tried to get them to jump to see how far they could go....but for the most part they were oblivious to us.

It's not a very good picture, but we quickly snapped a shot of a snake that slithered right by us.

One of the best things about the trails is that for the most part it's left up to nature. It's one of the only places I know where to go to be with nature that has for the most part been undisturbed by man. The leaves fall where they may, and they won't be raked up later. An old tree limb breaks, and it's new home is on the ground. This tree fell long enough ago that it now has a blanket of moss. Letting nature take it's course without the presence of man is very comforting to me...and sometimes I just don't see it enough.
